What are you doing in SD? I have a family reunion out in the Black Hills this summer and that area is one of the best driving places I've been to.

Hey, I have a quick question for you. I'm asking in an old post so as not to risk unwanted participants.
In any case, it seems that a few people have brought up mention of shared comments disappearing, most specifically Kat Callahan sharing a comment by MitsubiShe from her post to the Oppositelock mainpage.
Is there a glitch in the system?

Very likely there is no glitch. Unfortunately everyone who is an author on a blog can unshare a post or comment, and they do so anonymously. Many abuse this. And always have.

That is... unfortunate. I'd rarely make a case for beating on the door for Gawker IT on something, but this is one of those instances. If a commenter wants to unshare a comment that they posted, cool. But they shouldn't have the capacity to unshare others; that should be an admin-only ability.
I sometimes wonder what the point of being a mod/admin is when we can't really do a whole lot other than ask nicely.

We can remove authorship and block a commenter from being able to comment on the space we moderate... but yeah, that's about it (well, and the ability to send any comment to a draft or to the owner's own blog).
This is a point of contention on some of the other blogs as well (groupthink has been dealing with this for a very long time and has some rules covering it, but no way to discover what they are... but if someone is known to be unsharing comments maliciously, that would fall directly under a number of the rules we outlined, and would be a removable offense).
Today is really busy at work, so I'll probably be offline for most (if not all) of today. But I have a LOT of thoughts opinions on this subject. I'll pick up on this when I am able.
